What crosses the satellite link is a structured packet — headline, facts, ask, decision, deadline, blockers — typically a fraction of the original text. It moves on metered L-band, and every byte saved is shown against the message it came from.

The human still decides

Questions

Does this replace email or the vessel's existing messaging?
No. It sits over whatever the fleet already uses. A message written or pasted into Full Ahead is compressed into a decision packet and kept against the vessel, the equipment and the job it concerns, so the context is not lost in an inbox.
How much satellite data does it actually save?
Only the structured packet crosses the link — headline, facts, ask, decision, deadline and blockers. A long operational message that runs to several kilobytes of prose usually moves as a few hundred bytes, and the console shows written bytes against sent bytes for every message so the saving is measured, not claimed.
What happens with no connection at all?
Full Ahead is offline-first. Messages are captured on board with their original timestamp, held in the outbox and drained automatically on the next link of any kind — Starlink, LEO, VSAT, L-band or port Wi-Fi.
Can the AI misread a technical message?
It can, which is why it is built to say so. Every packet lists what it interpreted, and anything essential that is missing is raised as a question to the other side rather than filled in. Both the original text and the packet are stored, so the crew's own words are always one click away.
