MARPOL Annex VI compliance checklist

Air emissions are now the fastest-moving part of a PSC inspection: sulphur, NOx, changeover records, SEEMP, EEXI and the CII rating — with EU ETS and FuelEU stacked on top. Work through the list, save your progress, print it for the file.

Full Ahead keeps every item above as a live record against your vessels — due dates, responsible officer, attached evidence and a tamper-evident history an auditor can read. It works offline at sea and syncs when the link returns.

Common questions

What does MARPOL Annex VI cover?

Prevention of air pollution from ships: sulphur oxides and fuel oil quality, nitrogen oxides from diesel engines, ozone-depleting substances, volatile organic compounds, shipboard incineration, fuel oil availability, and the energy efficiency chapter covering EEDI, EEXI, SEEMP and the CII rating.

What is the global sulphur limit and what applies in an ECA?

The global limit is 0.50% m/m sulphur content. Inside Emission Control Areas the limit is 0.10% m/m. An approved exhaust gas cleaning system may be used as an equivalent arrangement, subject to the flag Administration's approval and the associated monitoring and record-keeping.

What records must be kept for a fuel changeover?

The date, time and position when changeover to compliant fuel was completed before entering the ECA and started after exiting, the fuel volumes on board, and the tanks involved — logged and available for inspection, along with the Bunker Delivery Notes and retained samples.

How does the CII rating fit into Annex VI?

Ships of 5,000 GT and above calculate an annual operational Carbon Intensity Indicator and receive an A to E rating. A D rating for three consecutive years, or a single E, requires a corrective action plan in the SEEMP Part III agreed with the Administration or recognised organisation.
